Lesson Objectives

By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:

  • Use Meta AI to draft and improve cover letters for specific roles
  • Use the STAR framework with Meta AI for interview story development
  • Understand ATS considerations and how Meta AI can help

Lesson Content

The three-input tailoring technique.

Generic resumes perform poorly. Tailored resumes that mirror the language of the job posting perform significantly better – especially in Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). The three-input technique:

"Help me tailor this content for this specific job. Input 1 – My experience: [paste your experience / bullet points]. Input 2 – The job posting: [paste the full posting]. Input 3 – The company: [one or two sentences about the company]. Task: Revise my experience descriptions to highlight what is most relevant to this role, use the language from the job posting where it genuinely applies to my experience, and identify the two or three most important qualifications I should emphasize."

The ATS language-matching check.

"Compare my resume language to this job posting. What keywords and phrases from the posting do not appear in my resume? Which of these should I incorporate because they genuinely apply to my experience?"

This is a dual check – not just keyword stuffing, but identifying genuine alignment that needs to be made explicit.

Cover letter drafting.

"Draft a cover letter for this application. My experience: [key relevant points]. The role: [title and company]. The posting emphasizes [key themes]. Tone: professional but warm. Length: three paragraphs. Do not use generic phrases like 'I am a passionate professional' – I want specific, substantive content."

STAR format story development.

STAR format (Situation, Task, Action, Result) is the standard for behavioral interview answers. Meta AI helps develop strong stories:

"Help me develop a STAR format story from this experience: [describe experience in your own words]. The question I am preparing for is: 'Tell me about a time you [behavioral competency].' Ensure the Result section is specific and quantifiable where possible."

Important: Meta AI drafts based on what you provide. You are responsible for accuracy – only include experiences and results that are genuine. AI-assisted storytelling of your real experiences is appropriate; AI-generated fabricated achievements is not.
