One of the most useful things Claude can do is read your work as a fresh reader who does not share your assumptions or blind spots. When you have been close to a document for hours, you stop seeing what is actually there and start seeing what you intended. Claude reads what is actually on the page. This makes Claude valuable for catching: Targeted review prompts. Generic "check this" prompts produce generic feedback. Target your review request to the specific type of weakness you are most concerned about. For logical review: Review this argument for logical gaps. Where does the reasoning skip a step, assume a premise it has not established, or reach a conclusion that does not follow from the evidence? For clarity review: Review this document for clarity. Identify any sentence or section that a reader unfamiliar with this topic would find confusing. For each, explain what is unclear and suggest a revision. For unsupported claims: Identify every claim in this document that is stated as fact but not supported by evidence in the text. List each claim and note what evidence or qualification is missing. For tone and audience fit: This document will be read by [specific audience]. Review it for tone and appropriateness. Flag anything that would not land well with this audience, and suggest revisions. For completeness: A reader of this document will likely want to know [specific things]. Does this document address them? What is missing? Using review feedback without accepting it uncritically. Claude's review is one perspective. It may flag something as unclear that your intended audience will understand perfectly. It may miss something important because it lacks domain expertise. Treat Claude's review the way you would treat a colleague's first pass: take the specific, actionable points seriously, investigate flags you are not sure about, and use your own judgment on feedback that does not fit your context. The revision cycle. After Claude reviews and you revise, submit the revised version for a second pass: "I've made revisions based on your previous review. Please review the updated version and identify any remaining issues." Iterating through two or three review cycles produces significantly stronger final work. A consultant has drafted a proposal recommendation section. Generic review request: Is this proposal good? Produces generic "this looks professional" type feedback. Targeted review request: Review the recommendation section of this proposal. I specifically want to know: Produces specific, actionable feedback about the logic chain, unsupported assumptions, and whether the section stands on its own. Ask Claude to review a document twice with different personas. First: "Review this as a supportive colleague who wants it to succeed – what would you strengthen?" Second: "Review this as a skeptical critic looking for reasons to reject it – what would you attack?" The gap between these two reviews reveals the document's most vulnerable points. Claude's review is a supplement to, not a substitute for, expert review in regulated fields. A Claude review of a financial disclosure, medical protocol, legal document, or safety procedure does not constitute professional sign-off. In these domains, use Claude's review to identify issues worth escalating to the appropriate expert – not as the final quality gate. Take a document you have recently written – a report, email, proposal, or analysis. Submit it to Claude with three specific targeted review prompts from this lesson. Evaluate the feedback. Which issues did Claude identify that you had missed? Which feedback did you disagree with and why? Revise based on the useful feedback and note the improvement. You should be able to write targeted review prompts for at least four different types of weakness, use Claude's review feedback productively without accepting it uncritically, and describe when a Claude review is not sufficient.
