Claude Code Practical Workflows – CLI, Planning, Worktrees, and Automation
Lesson 1: Explore Before Editing
Lesson Objectives
By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:
- Ask for a codebase overview without edits.
- Trace one feature from UI to storage.
- Request a glossary of unfamiliar project terms.
Lesson Content
Good Claude Code work starts with orientation. Before asking for changes, students can ask the agent to map the project, identify ownership boundaries, find files for a feature, and explain how data moves through the system.
Exploration prompts should say "do not edit yet" when the student only wants understanding. This prevents the agent from turning discovery into unapproved implementation.
