Claude Code Foundations – Agentic Development Workflow

Lesson 2: Built-In Tools and Human Boundaries

Lesson Objectives

By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:

  • Name common tool categories used by coding agents.
  • Explain why tool permission matters.
  • Create a human approval rule for risky actions.

Lesson Content

Claude Code can use file operations, search, execution, web lookup, code intelligence, subagents, and other extensions depending on the environment. Tools give the agent reach. Permissions and human review give the work control.

Students should treat tool use like giving a contractor access to a workshop. The contractor can be valuable, but you still lock away private material, label fragile areas, and inspect the work before using it.
